Supply Chain Manager, Purchasing Officer, and Logistics Manager are my preferred jobs. I chose these jobs because they fall under my area of interest. They fall under management since the in charge is responsible for planning, directing, controlling and staffing tasks. A person required to fill these positions should possess a certain level of knowledge, skills, and abilities, which are essential in discharging duties effectively. These three jobs shared specific responsibilities since both of them deal with managing the flow of goods and project teams involved in its activities. I will assess the three posts to determine their requirements and compare them with my skills and competencies to determine areas that I need to improve.
Both jobs are involved in the directing and coordination of activities. For example, a supply chain manager is coordinating performance across team projects, sections, and divisions on intricate supply chain assignments and offer direction in scheduling and appraisal actions that result in few missed targets and negligible bombshells. Similarly, a purchasing officer is tasked with guiding and harmonize actions of employees involved in procurement, vending, and dispensing machinery, supplies, equipment, materials, and machinery. On the same note, a logistics manager is responsible for cooperating with other units to assimilate logistics with business processes or systems, for instance, shipping, order management, accounting, and customer sales (onetonline.org). These jobs also entail developing operating strategies, plans, or procedures. Technological tools such as SAP, ERP, and Electronic mail are necessary for coordinating activities.
The positions involve communicating with individuals who take part in every stage of the job process. For instance, a supply chain manager converses with directors, fellow managers, and assistants. The manager presents necessary details them through either a handset, in printed format, electronic mail, or in face-to-face for the next course of action. Similarly, a purchasing manager is tasked with communicating with both internal and external stakeholders whereby he or she interrelates with persons outside the institution, on behalf of the institute to clients, public entities, government bodies, and other outside bases (indeed.com). Within the organization, a purchasing manager delivers info to superiors, peers, and juniors by cellular phone, in printed format, electronic mail, or through face-to-face. These details can be exchanged by writing a document, face-to-face or by cell phone or electronic mail. Likewise, a logistics manager is responsible for interacting with administrators, co-workers, or assistants by availing the relevant information necessary for decision making concerning logistics matters.
Being knowledgeable in certain areas is necessary for these positions. A good command of the English language is mandatory in both job positions. Managers in these positions should understand the content and arrangement of the English semantics plus the connotation and spellings, rubrics of sentence structure, and syntax (onetonline.org). Knowledge of management and administration is mandatory. Understanding of administration and business philosophies applied in production methods, resource allocation, human resource modeling, coordination of people and resources, tactical planning, and leadership techniques will enable the manager to administer duties effectively. Customer service is resourceful in both positions. This element involves being familiar with principles and procedures for offering client and individual services (Fisk, Grove & John, 2013). The scope comprises adhering to superior standards for services, appraisal of client contentment, and client needs assessment.
Furthermore, these positions entail several similar skills that are essential for the proper administration of duties. Listening actively through giving total attention to what others are communicating, taking time to comprehend the arguments being raised, raising enquiries where suitable, and not interjecting at wrong moments is essential. Similarly, thinking critically is a vital skill in these jobs. It involves using rationality and reasoning to recognize the strengths and feebleness of alternate options, inferences or tactics to solve glitches. Besides, as a leader, judgment and decision-making are critical. You will have to contemplate the comparative costs and benefits of relative options to select the most applicable one.
Some of the similar abilities include oral comprehension that is the capacity to listen to and comprehend facts and concepts brought forward through vocal arguments. Verbal expression, which entails the potential to converse notions and information through talking for others to understand. Moreover, written expression, which is the potential to pass concepts and facts through writing so that the target audience can comprehend. Lastly, deductive reasoning is vital in both positions. It encompasses the capability to apply common guidelines to particular problems to generate sensible solutions. However, written comprehension ability, which entails the capacity to read and comprehend thoughts and details, delivered in writing is essential in supply chain management and purchasing officer positions. It is estimated that supply chain managers earn an annual salary of about $105,000, whereas purchasing managers earn $115,000 and logistics managers earn $ 92,000.
On the contrary, some knowledge, skills, and abilities are only essential in one or two of the positions. For instance, knowledge in transportation, which involves understanding philosophies and approaches for transferring individuals or merchandises by rail, sea, road, or air, comprising the probable costs and benefits, is vital in supply chain management and logistics jobs. However, both purchasing and logistics officer should be a person who is competent in mathematics because the tasks involve plenty of calculations.
Nevertheless, knowledge in accountancy and economics, which necessitates understanding accounting and economic philosophies and techniques, banking, and the breakdown and presentation of financial figures, and financial markets, is only necessary for the supply chain and purchasing jobs. Supply Chain Managers should be excellent at monitoring where they assess their performance and the other colleagues, or the entity to make perfections or take remedial steps. On the other hand, the Purchasing Officer is a critical thinker since he or she uses logic and reasoning to recognize the strong points and feebleness of substitute resolutions, inferences or tactics to handling difficulties. Logistics Managers are excellent in speaking, whereby they talk to their audience to deliver information effectually.
On job activities, the Purchasing Officer is responsible for settling misunderstandings and negotiating with other stakeholders by handling grievances, resolving disagreements, and resolving complaints. Conversely, both the Supply Chain Manager and the Logistics Manager are tasked with decisions making and problems solving through studying data and assessing outcomes to select the most exceptional resolution to address burning issues. Besides, the supply chain manager and the Purchasing Officer are mandated with forming and upholding interpersonal relations by creating positive and collective working interactions among team members and sustaining them over time. Again, a supply chain manager and the logistics officer are in charge of designing and structuring teams through fostering and establishing shared trust, respect, and teamwork among project participants.
Further, the Supply Chain Management position involves estimating costs or material requirements, assessing labor requirements, managing inventories of products or organizational resources, and developing procedures to evaluate corporate activities. While a purchasing officer negotiates contracts for goods or services, generates financial statements, reports, or budgets. Further, she or he examines statistics to measure operational or project usefulness. On the other hand, Logistics Officers deliberate with organizational participants to undertake work activities establishes organizational strategies or plans, oversee workers and leads corporate operations, assignments, or services.
Most of my skillset, knowledge, and abilities cover what is required in these positions. For instance, I am excellent at building project teams and keeping them cohesive. Similarly, my communication and negotiation skills are superb which gives me an upper hand for these job positions. My leadership skills are also brilliant since I can offer direction and coordinate activities and people without any problems. However, some areas in my skillset require me to conduct further training to perfect them. For instance, my analytical skills and problem-solving abilities are substandard, and for me to fit well in these positions, I should be good at reading numbers and developing solutions to address contentious issues. Moreover, some technological tools are necessary when discharging duties in these positions that I should be conversant with them. For example, both jobs require knowledge in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) which I do not understand its functionalities.
In general, the above in information is resourceful in a job search. For instance, the summary highlights, skills that are mostly, needed by employers in the job market. These highlights act a revelation because they have given me a glimpse on areas I should continue sharpening to remain competitive among the thousands of job seekers. Besides, the information is very significant when preparing for an interview because I will have an overview of the job requirements and expectations. Attending a job interview without understanding what the job I applied could make me nervous and scared. However, having all this information at my figure tips will boost my confidence levels, such that I will be ready to face the panel and ready to answer any question that they will throw at me.
