Introduction Although many people try to fight for their identity, the identity of a person is solely dependent on the behavior or personality of that person, and this behavior is influenced by both external and internal environment of the named individual. Different people respond differently to the environment they live in. This is depicted in the two books; “The Man Who Was Almost a Man” by Dave Sanders in and “Barn Burning” by Sarty Snopes. Dave Sanders is a protagonist who at his young age felt that he was not being recognized as a man. He gets irritated by the way he is treated at the workplace by the rest of the workers and tries, by all means, to identify himself as a man and change the perspective of the other people towards him. Harlem Renaissance students are all familiar with the poet Langston Hughes, yet the singer Gladys Bentley is not even a footnote in most accounts of the period. For many years, although Hughes’ sexual orientation was sometimes questioned, it was not the focus of most criticism of him or his body of work. However, Bentley did not even become known to modern audiences and readers until it was revealed by LGBTQ researchers that she was not only a contemporary of “Ma” Rainey, Ethel Waters and other Harlem Renaissance divas, but was also a cross-dressing lesbian (Phillipson 2011). With the flourishing of art in Harlem, Langston Hughes and others saw the birth of “the dream of racial equality” that was later quashed by the economic devastation of the Great Depression (Standish 2018, p. 45). Famously in his poem, “Harlem” Hughes wondered what would happen to that dream. “Will it decay or evolve? Will it fade or be reborn?” (Standish 2018, p. 45). Rocket 88 by Jackie Breston and his Delta Cats Rocket 88 by Jackie Breston and his Delta Cats (1951) is the first song I listened to. This record was recognized in 1991 by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the first ever Rock music to be recorded. The signature sound of a distorted guitar was what qualified it as the first Rock and Roll song. The interesting fact about this song is that the distorted guitar sound happened accidentally after the amp of the guitar got ruined as the band was traveling to record the song (Esmonde par. 3). I found this recording surprising and confusing with regards to whom it was attributed to. Some people attribute the song to Ike Turner and his Kings of Rhythm and others to Jackie Breston. However, further research revealed that Jackie Breston was a member of Ike Turner’s band as a saxophonist.

Institutions of higher learning are now incorporating online learning into their learning models as long-term strategies but the challenge has been on finding ways of ensuring that students are engaged in asynchronous online discussions, seeing as this is a critical part of learning. Just like traditional face-to-face learning, it is important to ensure that learners participate in the learning process as it builds confidence and ensures that learners are engaged with the course material.

The society has a set of rules and conventions that prescribe what constitutes acceptable behavior and what is not or out of order. The social norms guide the way people should conduct themselves or relate to each other. When we are growing up, we get to appreciate and practice these norms. For instance, it is abnormal for one to walk around naked or dressed in a manner that is unfit. Anyone who engages in activities that are considered to be outside the norms is perceived to be abnormal. I grew up knowing that every shoe is worn in a specific foot. I decided to deviate from the norm, as part of a mini-experiment, by wearing the right show on the left foot and the left shoe on the right foot.

Position When filling the questionnaire, indicating ones professional position was left optional for the respondent. Although some of the respondents left the part blank, a majority of them felt the need to indicate their profession or the positions they hold in their respective careers. Evidently, the positions range from across a wide array of professional occupations. Gender Filling in gender was also optional for the respondents. Some of them indicated their gender while others ignored this part of the questionnaire. Age The participants were required to indicate their age when filling the questionnaire. All the respondents indicated their age brackets on the form. Over 90% of this population was aged 35 years and above. Only two were between the ages of 30 and 34. Such a trend can be attributed to the fact that individuals over the age of 35 have already established themselves as professionals in their respective fields. Individuals below the age of 30 do not necessarily indulge in business activities, particularly trade fairs since most of them are still pursuing their studies.
